Grab the Western Star and drift back to a bygone era. Marv Hass the “Prairie Poet” a master story teller, creates adventures that will thrill your imagination, tickle your funny-bone, make you proud of your heritage and feel the hardship and challenge of living the western dream.

The Poem of the Month for July is entitled, "Part of Me." The poem addresses the Prairie Poet's feelings about his heritage as an American. The poem is most fitting for this month during which we celebrate our nation's independence.

The Prairie Poet is pleased to add a new feature to his website. The feature is the introduction of a guest author and his works. The author is Dr. Jim Hoy. Dr. Jim Hoy is a Professor of English, at Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas and is also the Director of the Center for Great Plains Studies. Jim is a native plainsman, author and cowboy poet extraordinaire, with a passion for the Great Plains, its history and the folks that lived and live there. He is a treasure to those that love and honor the west.

The Prairie Poet has been interviewing up a storm.  Marvin sat down with a local and restaurateur and author of western novels by the name of Keith Ostling. In addition, a up and coming artist in the Buena Vista, CO area by the name of Ellie Dwyer talked candidly with the poet about her interests and art. These most recent interviews may be found on the Across the Fence page.

Visit a recent addition to the Prairie Poet's website - Chuckwagon Recipes. There you will find outstanding dishes created by distinguished chefs from across the West!

Enjoy Song of Sweetgrass,  Cook-Fire-Smoke, and the books to follow. The “Latch String” is always out, and…”We’ll see you in the West!"
